What Is Prostatitis?

Prostatitis is an inflammation or infection of the prostate gland. This prostate problem can affect men of all ages. Only your doctor can tell if you have prostatitis.
Depending on the type of prostatitis, signs and symptoms can come on suddenly or slowly, but may include:

Fever and chills
Lower back pain
Pain in the area just above or next to the penis
Pain during urination
Pain or discomfort before or during ejaculation

With most forms of prostatitis, the treatment is pain medication and antibiotics. But be aware, certain types of prostatitis may require immediate medical attention, so contact your doctor if you experience any of the above symptoms.
