What Is Prostate Cancer?
Each year, out of every three men diagnosed with cancer, one is diagnosed with prostate cancer . It is also the second leading cause of cancer death in American men.
Prostate cancer takes place in the prostate gland and occurs when certain abnormal cells begin to multiply and can destroy the prostate gland. Cancer cells then can spread from the prostate to other parts of the body. Regular blood tests and physical exams can help detect prostate cancer at its earliest stages. Only your doctor can tell if you have prostate cancer.
Symptoms of prostate cancer may include
- Difficulty urinating, including pain, trouble starting or stopping the stream, or dribbling
- Lower back pain
- Pain with ejaculation
No one knows the exact causes of prostate cancer, but certain risk factors include age, family history, race, and diet.
